Moanalua Varsity Girls Were Ready To Do Battle Against The Kaiser Cougars Tonight (25-16, 25-13)

The #1 OIA Red - East Moanalua Na Menehune girls varsity volleyball team lived up to their title tonight against the Kaiser Cougars, 25-16, 25-13 at their Senior Night 2011. It was a game to see. The excitement of a crowd filled gym at Moanalua High School was overwhelming. Both sides were really into the game, shouting, cheering, yelling, and having a fun night supporting their respective teams. Going into tonight's game, both teams were tied 10-0 in the 2011 Girls Volleyball OIA Red - East.

The Cougars threw everything they had from the kitchen sink to old tires at the Na Menehune who put up a great defensive performance. The Na Menehunes took no prisoners tonight, they came to play and "wham bam," did the job. OH/RS #14, Daisge Smith and MB #15, Analise Austin (photo above) put up a block to end the game. Congratulations to the Na Menehune for their awesome win and also to the Kaiser Cougars who put up a good fight.

The Menehune Blue stopped the Cougars 25-18, 24-26 and 15-11 "Click here" to see Blue photo's, and the JV Cougars beat out the Moanaula JV by taking advantage of their errors 27-26, 21-25 and 15-13. Kahuku "Victorious" Over Moanalua Na Menehune (14-7)

The talk around town was the Kahuku Varsity football team and their size. But it wasn't their size, nor did they "blow out" the Moanalua football team at Kahuku High School last night at Kahuku's Homecoming and celebration of their 40th Reunion, Class of 1971.

To start off the game, Kahuku's DB #10, Mason Kualii-Moe intercepted Moanalua QB #15, Dillion Turk's pass to WR #8 Marciano Tauvela with 11:51 on the clock in the first quarter.

A few plays later, Kahuku QB #7 Kawehena Johnson scored their first TD and at the end of the first half, led 7-0. In the third quarter with 1:16 left on the clock, Moanalua came back with a surprise from QB #15 Dillion Turk handing off to SB #1 Christian Akana who threw a pass to SB #2 John Michael Sharsh for a TD, and kicker #33 Lee Arakawa drove it high and dead center for the extra point to tie the game 7-7. Throughout the game, both sides had their share of penalties, but time was a factor for the Na Menehue in the end. The final score was 14-7 in favor of Kahuku, who went on to celebrate a happy Red Raider Homecoming.

The Na Menehune challenged Kahuku all night, with great defense from start to finish by both teams. Congratulations to the Kahuku and Moanalua football teams, their coaches and players, and especially to the Kahuku Class of 1971 who were present. Congratulations also to the Kahuku JV team who won 22-20 over the Moanalua JV team. The Moanalua JV, like the Varsity put up a great defense and gave Kahuku a "run for their money." Special thanks to Kahuku Principal, Donna Lindsey and Vice Principal-Athletic Director, Pat Macadangdang for their hospitality. For more information "click here."
