Alyson Rod and Her Fight Against Cancer "Spike For A Cause Moanalua vs Iolani"

Alyson Rod who teaches at Moanalua High School grades 9-12, was diagnosed with stomach cancer this past summer. She said they found a tumor and had her stomach removed, and just started chemotherapy a month ago.

"This isn't the first time, when I was 11 years old in elementary school, I had bone cancer in my knees, but that was completely a different type of cancer and went through a lot of chemotherapy and surgery. The one on my knee was called Osteosarcoma, that was in 2002 and it hasn't come back. This stomach cancer is a new one and an unrelated cancer."

I asked Alyson how she's dealing with this. She replied, "I'm just taking this one day at a time. I'm not trying to think too hard about it. I have a lot of support from my family and supporters so that's kinda helping me deal with it."

"As for our Moanalua girls volleyball and their support, the one surprising thing is knowing how so many people want to help and show that they're there for you. I guess the girls volleyball team is doing this as a way to help support and show that they're there for me."

"In closing, I'm so moved that they want to do this for me and it's really overwhelming that these people I know and strangers are out there wanting to help out."

On Thursday, September 25, 2014, there will be a special event for Alyson Rod at the Moanalua High School Gym, "Spike For A Cause" rallying together to beat cancer.  Moanalua vs Iolani at 5:00 PM. Entrance Fee $5.00 Shirts $10.00. C'mon down and help support a great cause.  Video "click here."

2104 Pre-Season Girls Soccer Games at Waipio Soccer Complex, Waipahu HI.

The start of a Pre-season Girls Soccer Game between Moanalua Na Menehune and the Kahuku Red Raiders was held at the Waipio Soccer Complex in Waipahu, Hawaii.  Moanalua Na Menehune Head Coach Nikki Dela Pena related this year squad is much smaller than we're used to but our squad still has a lot experienced players.  This year we have 9 seniors, we're not done with our trails yet and still looking at some freshman with potential to add to this team.

We definitely do have experience, and at least when we look at our bench, everyone is able to play and they all are returnees.  Today's game is still in pre-season, although it's good to utilize this scrimmage today because we're going to end up playing Kahuku this season and they're usually one of our head to head competitors in the East side.  For photo's and video "click here."
