What a great game tonight between the Moanalua Na Menehune Varsity team and Damien Monarchs at Moanalua 27-7. Last week, the Moanalua Varsity started off the year with a pre-season game loss against Mililani. It left fans wondering what would happen tonight, but with faith and strong determination they proved that they are back and ready for the new 2011 football season. The Na Menehune will start their first OIA Red East game against Castle on August 26, 2011 at Castle High School. As for tonight's game, Dillion Turk, QB #15 passed (photo above) to Jay Laudato, SB #5 of Moanalua to start off the game with a TD. Moanalua would score two more touchdowns to make the final game score over Damien 27-7. Also, for those who didn't know, tonight's game was televised on OC16, which was a first in Moanalua football history. "Click here" to see more game scores.
Congratulations to coach Arnold Martinez, his coaches and the varsity team for a well played defensive and offensive game. Special recognition of the following players, SB #5 Jay Laudato, SB #2 Jon-Michael Sharsh and LB #44 Hardy Tautolo and to Damien coach Eddie Klaneski, his coaches and the varsity team and especially to QB#10 Alan Mohika. There was a scare among the players and fans in the third quarter when Damien QB #10, Alan Mohika got hit on an earlier play and collapsed on the sideline. Both teams kneeled and prayed as medical personnel attended to him. Everyone watched in silence, and you could see the concern and emotion on the faces of his teammates. Mohika was eventually taken away by ambulance and it was decided that the teams would finish the game. Our prayers go out to Alan Mohika and his family.
