Today, at Kaiser High School, the Farrington JV (7-12) and Varsity (26-21) football teams played against the Kamehameha Warriors in celebration of Farrington High School's 75th Anniversary. It has been 46 years since the Governors, coached by Tom Kiyosaki played against the Warriors back in 1965 and took the ILH Championship on Thanksgiving Day over Kamehameha 16-6 at the Old Termite Stadium, as it was called back then. If you're not familiar with the location of this stadium, it was located at the corner of King and Isenberg Streets now called the Honolulu Stadium State Park. Tonight, at the Pre-Season kick off, the class of 1966 football team players celebrated tonight's game with a coin toss ceremony along with tonight's team. At the coin toss ceremony on the field were (above photo L/R) Walter Rodrigues (receiver), Stan Cadiente (quarterback), Joe Gomes, Cliff Mookini (blue shirt, back) and Ike Yamada (blue shirt, front). The Farrington varsity team came through tonight by winning the game over the Warriors 26-21. The Warriors scored first and held the lead into the second quarter. The Governors were determined and tied the game in the second quarter, but the Warriors too came back again and took the lead, but the Governors struck back with a 80 yard kick off return by #23 Lavatai Setefano (Bottom photo) to take the lead, and hold the Warriors off through the 4th quarter down to the last 2 seconds. Congratulations to the Farrington Governors 2011 football team and the 1966 football team! For game information, "click here." For Varsity photos, "click here," for JV photo's, "click here"
